What does a podiatrist do?

Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who have been trained to diagnose and treat abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs.
They also prevent and correct deformity, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections.
They can give you advice on how to look after your feet and what type of shoes to wear.
They can also treat and alleviate day-to-day foot problems, including: Foot infections,Fungal nail infections, Ingrown toenails, Corns and calluses, Warts & Verrucas, Athlete's foot, and many more

Treatments offered at Prestige Healthcare:

Routine treatment / General podiatry;

This involves the cutting of all different types of nails, ranging from thick fungal nails to people who are unable to manage their nails. The callous and corns are also debrided along with extensive advice offered to prevent these form forming again.
COST :  from £45.00

Biolmechanics / gait analysis/  MSK;

This offers an extensive examination of the lower limbs, analysing their structure, strengths, weaknesses and alignment. This is a great way to diagnose abnormalities that cause pain and discomfort, which can be treated with orthotics or simple insoles along with exercises too. This will help to improve the Gail overall.

Verruca treatments;

Verruca are caused by the Papilloma virus and can often cause pain and discomfort. There can be a single one or a cluster of verruca on the feet. We offer a wide range of successful treatments such as freezing, needling and acid treatments. Some verruca may need regular follow up treatments.
COST From £45 - £80 depending on the treatment recommended.

In growing toe nails ;

Asha has 24 years of experience in minor surgery and offers this procedure on site. She is able to conduct a full nail avulsion or a partial one using local anaesthetic. This condition often occurs in patients that have had some sort of trauma to their nails. Post operative care and redressing are offered to ensure healing.

Diabetic assessments ;

Asha has specialised in diabetes and therefore can offer annual diabetic assessments, which can be sent to your G.P. This involves an extensive assessment of your blood supply, sensations and a general assessment of your lower limb. Doppler assessment is also available to analyse the circulation to the feet. Footwear advice is also given, if required.

What happens at the consultation?

At your first consultation, the podiatrist will take a full medical history and carry out basic tests, such as checking the blood circulation and feeling in your feet.

They may also look at the way you walk and move your lower leg joints.
They'll discuss your concerns with you and then make a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Any minor problems that are picked up can usually be treated on the spot, including the removal of hard skin, corns and calluses.
The session is usually completely painless (even pleasant) and takes 30 to 60 minutes.
